The short version

Sacred Scrolls is a Bible reading app. We collect the minimum needed to run the app and keep your subscription working. We do not sell or share your data, we do not show ads, we do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

What we collect

  • Account email. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email (or a private relay address). We use it to identify your account and respond to support requests.
  • Subscription state. Apple tells us whether your subscription is active so we can unlock features on your devices. Apple processes payment — we never see your card.
  • AI chat messages. If you use the AI Bible study chat, your messages are sent to OpenAI's API for processing and stored on our servers so you can revisit conversations across devices. You can delete any thread or your entire account at any time.
  • Push tokens. If you opt into notifications (daily verse, reading reminders), we store the device push token Apple (iOS) or Google FCM (Android) gives us. Disabling notifications in your system Settings revokes this.
  • Prayer Lock blocklist (Android only). The list of apps you choose to shield is stored only on your device using Android's encrypted DataStore. It never leaves your device and never reaches our servers.
  • Diagnostic logs. Server-side request logs (timestamp, endpoint, response code, anonymized IP) for keeping the service up. Logs rotate after 30 days.

What we don't collect

  • No advertising identifiers (IDFA / AAID).
  • No third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, no Firebase, no Mixpanel).
  • No third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
  • No precise location.
  • No contacts, photos, or other device data.
  • No payment information — Apple and Google Play handle all billing.
  • Prayer Lock does NOT read on-screen text, form fields, view hierarchies, or any content inside other apps. It does NOT capture screenshots, audio, or screen recordings.

Prayer Lock (Android only)

Prayer Lock is an optional Pro feature that pauses apps you choose until you complete a prayer. To detect when a blocked app comes to the foreground, Sacred Scrolls registers an AccessibilityService with Android. The service:

  • Reads only the package name of the app currently being opened (event.packageName from window-state-changed accessibility events).
  • Does NOT read any on-screen text, form fields, view hierarchy, or any content inside other apps.
  • Does NOT capture screenshots, audio, or screen recordings.

Your blocklist of apps is stored only on your device using Android's encrypted DataStore. We never see which apps you have selected, and the list is never sent to our servers or any third party.

You can disable Prayer Lock at any time in Settings → Prayer Lock → Disable, or by revoking the accessibility permission in Android Settings → Accessibility → Installed apps → Sacred Scrolls.

Android permissions

  • BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE — Prayer Lock only. See the Prayer Lock section above.
  • SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM / USE_EXACT_ALARM — Prayer Lock only, used to trigger lock windows at the times you configure.
  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — Prayer Lock only, re-arms your schedule after a device reboot.
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS — required by Android 13+ for the "Prayer Lock is active" status notification.
  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK — Prayer audio playback (lock-screen + notification controls).
  • INTERNET — fetching Bible content, prayers, and account data.

Who we share data with

  • Apple. Sign in with Apple, App Store subscriptions, and APNs push notifications (iOS).
  • Google. Sign in with Google, Google Play billing, and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) push notifications (Android).
  • OpenAI. AI chat messages are processed by OpenAI's API. Per OpenAI's API terms, your messages are not used to train their models.
  • Cloudflare. Network protection and DNS for our website and API.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it for advertising.

Storage and retention

The Bible text and a local audio cache (up to 200 MB, auto-cleared after 30 days) are stored on your device for offline reading. Account data and chat history persist on our servers until you delete your account.

Your rights

  • Delete any AI chat thread from inside the app.
  • Delete your entire account and all associated data from Settings → Account → Delete Account on iOS, or More → Account → Delete on Android.
  • Disable push notifications from your system Settings at any time (iOS Settings → Sacred Scrolls → Notifications, or Android Settings → Apps → Sacred Scrolls → Notifications).
  • Disable Prayer Lock at any time from Settings → Prayer Lock → Disable, or by revoking the accessibility permission in Android Settings.
  • Request a copy of your data by emailing [email protected].

Children

Sacred Scrolls is rated 4+ and suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Changes

If we change this policy in any material way, we'll update the date above and notify users in-app.
