Sacred Scrolls ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Sacred Scrolls mobile application and the website sacredscrolls.app (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address (or a private relay address if you choose to hide your email via Sign in with Apple).
  • AI Chat Content: When you use the AI Bible study chat, your messages are sent to our servers and to OpenAI for processing. We store your conversation history and a small set of "memories" — short facts the AI extracts to personalize future replies — so you can revisit past conversations and continue them across devices. You can delete individual threads, clear all memories at any time from Settings › Chat › Manage Memories, or delete your entire account from Settings › Account › Delete Account to remove all chat data permanently. We do not use your chat content for advertising, share it with third parties, or use it to train AI models.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: Device model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers for push notifications.
  • Usage Data: Pages visited, features used, reading progress, and interaction patterns to improve the Service.
  • Location Data: When you use the Church Finder feature, we request your precise location to show nearby Catholic churches. Location is only accessed when you grant permission and is not stored on our servers.

Information We Do Not Collect

  • We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA).
  • We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
  • We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs that track you across apps.

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
  • To authenticate your account and sync reading progress across devices.
  • To process AI chat queries and return relevant Scripture-based responses.
  • To show nearby churches when you use the Church Finder.
  • To send push notifications (daily verses, reading reminders) if you opt in.
  • To manage your subscription and in-app purchases through Apple.
  • To respond to support requests.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share information with:

  • OpenAI: Chat messages are sent to OpenAI's API for AI-powered responses. OpenAI's data usage policies apply to this processing. We do not send your personal identity information to OpenAI.
  • Apple: For Sign in with Apple authentication and subscription management.
  • Google: For Google Sign-In authentication, if you choose this option.
  • Cloudflare: Our website and API use Cloudflare for security and performance. Cloudflare may process connection metadata.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure servers. The Bible text and knowledge graph data are stored locally on your device for offline reading. Account and sync data are transmitted over HTTPS and stored with appropriate security measures.

Audio files are cached locally on your device (up to 200MB) and automatically cleaned after 30 days of inactivity.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Opt out of push notifications at any time through device settings.
  • Deny or revoke location access at any time through device settings.

Children's Privacy

The Service is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The Bible reading features work without an account. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Subscriptions

Sacred Scrolls Pro subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple's App Store. We do not directly collect or store payment information. Subscription management, billing, and refunds are handled by Apple according to their terms.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date above.
