Sacred Scrolls is a Catholic devotional, illuminated.
A Bible app for the faithful — the full Douay-Rheims, hand-illuminated covers, Story Mode prose, audio narration, and an AI guide that grounds every answer in real verses you can tap and read.
Sacred Scrolls began as a question we kept asking ourselves: what would the Bible feel like if it actually looked the way medieval scribes meant it to feel — radiant, readable, alive? The big-name Bible apps work fine, but they feel built for utility. Plain text, ad-supported, and ecumenical to the point of leaving Catholics on the outside. We wanted something different. A Bible app that takes its audience seriously: 73 books, the Catholic canon, the Douay-Rheims translation, and the visual reverence that the Word deserves.
Every book of the Bible has its own illuminated cover. Every one of the 1,362 chapters opens with a full-bleed illustration. The art is hand-crafted with AI but curated — we threw out hundreds of takes for every one we kept, because gold-leaf-aesthetic illumination is hard to fake. We wanted Scripture to look the way a leather-bound family Bible felt when you opened it as a child.
What's different here
Sacred Scrolls reads the Bible four ways at once. There's the classic Douay-Rheims, verse-numbered, for prayer and study. There's Story Mode, where every chapter is rewritten as readable narrative prose that puts you inside the scene — the way a good novelist would tell it. There's full audio narration, multi-voice and ambient, for commute or chores. And there's AI Bible Chat, which searches all 37,255 verses semantically and answers your hardest questions with citations grounded in the text itself — not in the model's memory.
On the prayer side: a daily verse with reflection lands every morning. The Prayer hub holds Litany, Rosary, Examen, Lectio Divina, and dozens of mood-tagged prayers (anxiety, gratitude, before sleep, in grief). Multiple voices for audio. Live Activities and Lock Screen widgets. iCloud sync. Apple Sign In. Built for actual daily use, not just app-store screenshots.
Our values
Free Scripture, forever
The full Catholic canon — text, audio, and Story Mode — is free. Always. Pro is for AI chat, not the Bible itself. Reading the Word should never have a paywall.
Catholic distinctiveness
73 books, not 66. Full deuterocanon. Tobit, Wisdom, Sirach, Maccabees — all here, illuminated. Built for Catholics who want their Bible to look and feel like a Catholic Bible.
Beauty as catechesis
A page of illuminated art teaches before a word is read. Every chapter opens with full-bleed gold-leaf-style art that makes Scripture feel like the wonder it is — because for centuries, it did.
Theologically anchored AI
AI Bible Chat is grounded in real verses from the Douay-Rheims, not the model's memory. Every answer carries citations you can tap and read in context. We treat the text as authoritative — the AI is just a research assistant.
What's next
More languages. Deeper devotional content (mission programs, novenas, daily mass readings). Better art for the Old Testament — there's still room to grow there. A real Catholic study Bible layer with cross-references, footnotes from the magisterium, and entity wikis for every person and place mentioned. We're a small team and we ship slowly, but we ship with care.
